Fishing spoons

Looking back at the history of fishing lures, fishing spoons are one of the oldest forms of attractors or imitators that have been in use for hundreds of years. Once we figured out how to make different metals and render them into desired shapes for everything from weapons to machinery, fishing spoons were a logical extension. You could cut metals and bend them into the desired shapes and sizes that suited your fishery. Need a heavier fishing spoons, make it out of thicker metal a lighter one, the opposite. Want a fishing lure that sinks quickly or casts well make it a compact heavy design....etc, etc. Today's fishing spoons are a far cry from the original fishing spoons of the past. Williams specialty is fishing spoons. We make fishing spoons in a variety of weights and sizes from the smallest Williams W10 Wabler, measuring 1" and weighing in at 1/16 oz to the largest fishing spoon made by Williams, the C90 Whitefish featured on this page which measures a full 6"'s and weighs 1-1/2 oz's. We manufacture an array of fishing spoons sizes and styles to fit angling preferences from jigging, casting or trolling and are also multi species. The old fly fishing adage "match the hatch" also applies to fishing spoons. For example if on your day on the water you are after rainbow trout in mid summer on a smelt based lake, odds are that the trout are targeting smelt of the year in the 2 to 3 inch range as a good portion of their forage base. In this example a 6" Williams Whitefish would not "match the hatch" but a C60 3-1/4" Whitefish would. Are you jigging while anchored or drifting? Then the Williams C60 Whitefish, the J50 (2-1/4") or J60 (3-1/4") Williams Ice jigs would all likely be good choices. If you are trolling, a QS3 3-1/4" Williams Quick silver or a D2 2-3/4" or D3 3-1/2 Williams Dartee would fit the bill to match the forage base. If however you were targeting larger lake trout or Northern pike that were feeding on mature ciscoes or shad then the C90 Whitefish would fit the bill. These are but two examples and any good angler will tell you that understanding your target species will increase your odds but sometimes you have to throw out reason and on some days the other adage "opposites attract" rings true. If the traditional approach doesn't prove productive move up or down in fishing spoon size and don't be afraid to experiment until you hit upon the winning combination for the day.

Next time on the lake try one of our fishing spoons. We are confident that you will like the results.

Size C60 is an excellent jigging fishing spoon on open or hard waters. The size C70 at 4Œ" is a perfect imitation of most mature baitfish species. The larger C80 and C90 sizes are popular great lakes salmon lures as well as proven big lake trout and northern pike favorites. They are regularly used as bait or smaller attractors or dodgers. Their unique shape offers less resistance and the brilliant flash of the precious metal finish attracts fish from greater distances.
